Financial Aid Financial assistance is available through a combination of various programs that are funded through federal, state, local and private sources. The aid is designed to assist those students who find it difficult or impossible to attend school without financial assistance. A brief description of the programs is listed below. If you believe you will require financial aid while attending TTCJ, please visit our Student Services Office between the hours of 8:00AM and 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Financial Aid Handbooks are also available to help you apply for a variety of aid packages.
Any Tennessee citizen aged 18 or older who wants to attend the Tennessee Technology Center at Jacksboro is eligible for up to $2000 from the Wilder-Naifeh Technical Skills Grant funded by the new Tennessee Education Lottery Scholarship (TELS) program. Unlike the HOPE scholarships for high school graduates, the Wilder-Naifeh grants do not require a high school diploma, a minimum grade point average, or taking the ACT or SAT college entrance tests. Students can enroll as either full or part-time students at TTCJ and can receive up to $2000 per year to complete their chosen program. All individuals interested in applying for a Wilder-Naifeh Skills Grant need to submit and have processed a Free Application for Federal Financial Aid (FAFSA) form. Hard copy applications may take up to 4 to 6 weeks for processing, while online applications may take up to 7 days. FAFSA forms may be obtained at the TTCJ, from high school counselors, from college and university financial aid offices, and from the Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation or online at Free Application for Federal Student Aid. To maintain the Wilder-Naifeh grant, students must maintain satisfactory academic progress, meaning a grade of "C" or better, and meet normal attendance requirements. Individuals who accept HOPE scholarships are not eligible for a Wilder-Naifeh grant. HOPE scholarship recipients who enroll in a community college or 4-year institution and drop out before competing their program, or complete their program, then decide they need further technical training cannot receive Wilder-Naifeh grants. To be eligible for a Wilder-Naifeh grant, students must have been Tennessee residents for 1 year as of May 1, 2008 immediately preceding enrolling at a Tennessee Technology Center. Federal Pell Grant
A Federal Pell Grant, unlike a loan, does not have to be repaid, as long as
the student completes the required number of hours of training. Pell Grants are
awarded to undergraduate students who have not earned a bachelor’s or a
professional degree. One year grants-in-aid, valued at $150 to $300 depending on the extent of
documented need, are designed to assist students of exceptional financial need,
who, for the lack of financial means of their own or of their families, would be
unable to obtain such a grant. Funds for these grants are provided from Federal
appropriations and they may not exceed the lesser of $300 or one-half the
total amount of student financial aid provided by the institution. The Federal
Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant may be renewed annually upon
application, providing the recipient continues to meet eligibility requirements.
The TTCJ administers these funds which are generally limited. The Tennessee Student Assistance Award (TSAA) is a state grant program
established to assist eligible Tennessee residents who will be enrolled at
eligible Tennessee colleges, universities and technology centers. The grant is
based on financial need, and in NO case may the grant be more than the amount of
tuition and fees assessed by the institution. Students must be a Tennessee
resident and meet TSAA eligibility requirements. Repayment is not required. The deadline for applying is
usually March 1.. This program enables eligible students to earn a portion of their educational
expenses through part-time employment at the Center. For additional
information, contact the TTCJ Student Services Office. The Rehabilitation Division of the Tennessee Department of Human Services
provides assistance to students who qualify under the Vocational Rehabilitation
Act. Students with certain mental or physical handicaps may receive
assistance with Maintenance Fees, book fees, etc. Contact a local
Rehabilitation Service Office for more information.
